Rooted in the Anabaptist tradition and committed to wrestling with our faith.

What is Anabaptism?

It’s a Christian tradition emphasizing living out the life of Jesus demonstrated through peacemaking and community building. The Mennonite Church grew out of the Anabaptist movement in Europe in the early 1500s.

Working for Peace & Justice

As a queer and anti-racist community, GMC welcomes and affirms God’s love for all people. We are working to dismantle white supremacy, and seek collective liberation from the harm of racism. As part of a historic peace tradition, we participate in the ongoing non-violent struggle for global peace. Our weekly special offerings support projects, organizations and people working to build a more just world.

Our Core Convictions

Instead of membership, we practice covenanting. Covenanters publicly affirm our core convictions, tithe, and take leadership in the congregation. As an Anabaptist community we hold these convictions collectively at the center of our faith and live, even if we don’t all individually believe them all the time.

We are the oldest Mennonite congregation in North America

Our church was established in Philadelphia in 1683. Today our congregation is made up equally of those who grew up in Mennonite churches and those who come from a diverse spectrum of Christian and other faith backgrounds.
